About

Jangneung is the tomb of Wonjong, the father of King Injo (1623–1649) of Joseon, and his consort, Queen Inheon of the Gu clan. Jangneung is a double tomb with burial mounds placed side by side within a single enclosure. The scale and specifications of the tomb seem to exemplify the typical style of the mid-Joseon period. Below the tomb is a ritual Tomb Keeper's House where ancestral rites were performed; this building was visited annually by King Yeongjo and King Jeongjo to offer sacrifices, and the area surrounding the tomb is landscaped like a park.
